Dr Lawrence Cotter

Dr Lawrence Cotter  is a Consultant Cardiologist and University teacher.

He qualified at Manchester and spent ten years in junior hospital posts in London Edinburgh and Oxford before being appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1984.
From 2000 to 2017 he was also visiting Cardiologist at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.
From 2000 to 2012 he was chairman of the Medical Staff committee and Local negotiating committee for Central Manchester.
From 2000 to 2012 he was Clinical Dean in charge of clinical medical education at MRI and its ten associated hospitals. As a result he was made an Honorary Professor.
From 2009 to 2013 he was an elected governor to The Central Manchester University Hospitals and from 2013 to 2017 he was a Non-Executive director of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Broadgreen (judged “outstanding ” by the CQC) and chairman of its quality committee.
He was on the Council of the Royal College of Physicians for ten years including two years as Censor and two years as a Trustee and has been a senior examiner for the College for twent years in the U.K. and on many occasions overseas.
He has also examined for thirty years for Manchester University and has been an external examiner for Kings College (Guy’s and St Thomas’s) and for the National University of Oman.
He has 70 publications in British and International medical journals.
He has been a member of the Labour Party for thirty years.
