David Wrigley

I am an NHS GP in Carnforth, north Lancashire and have worked there for over 15 years. I am passionately committed to a publicly funded, publicly provided and publicly accountable NHS. I am a lifelong Labour Party member and past chair of Morecambe and Lunesdale CLP. I was recently on the selection panel for the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in my constituency under an All Women Shortlist.

I am co-author of NHS for Sale and contributed chapters to NHS SOS – both of which exposed the ongoing crisis in the NHS with politicial and media betrayals along with the NHS being let down hugely by its medico-political leaders.

I am chair of Doctors in Unite – an active, progressive group of doctors within the UK’s largest trade union – Unite – with 1.5 million members.

I am active in the British Medical Association and sit on the BMA GP Committee (representative for Cumbria and Lancashire) and BMA Council (currently standing for re-election). It was my motion to BMA Council that eventually brought the BMA out in complete opposition to the toxic Health & Social Care Bill.

I recognise the importance that the SHA plays in political circles and the wider need to expose the catastrophe occurring in our NHS and I am keen to play a more involved role in the important work of the SHA.
