The coronavirus outbreak has resulted in a global panic. It has hit many people and countries around the world in different ways, negatively affecting our lives on so many levels. Even though therapists have noted that we are all going through a collective trauma, many have been struggling with old traumas that they thought they overcame. This pandemic has uncovered a lot of unhealed wounds, which has led to a striking decline in the state of our mental health. Scientists and healthcare workers, on the other hand, are doing their best to find a cure and offer help in every way possible, while their lives are being laid on the line. Yet, there are some positive points that the coronavirus brought about that were already long overdue. Below, we will explore more how the world has been dealing with the current health issues on different levels.

Different Ways of Doing Science

In the past, pharma, researches, and independent scientists have always worked separately. Since the start of this virus outbreak, many have realized that old approaches will cost millions of people’s lives around the world. This new collective approach is different from the ones adopted during past pandemics and epidemics. Right now, every doctor, scientist, and organization has realized that uniting isn’t a luxury or an option anymore. The power of science is the only thing we have against this horrid viral spread. As Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) explains, we still have many unanswered questions regarding the coronavirus outbreak and we are yet to develop effective tools to handle this health global health crisis, and the only way to do that is by bringing the scientific community together to identify research priorities and speed up the progress.

Open Resources

Scientists have been making leaps and huge advancements when it comes to understanding the human body and the different diseases that afflict it. The possession of information and receiving a medal for being the first inventor of the coronavirus vaccine isn’t anyone’s priority anymore. What’s more important is harnessing all the possible help we can get to find a solution. It’s critical that we make fast calculated decisions as time isn’t on our side.

Turning to reliable sources for information is crucial at a time like this. As stated in the blog post Join the Coronavirus Community Research Space, specific research has been made that created a specific group that focuses all its attention on collecting all available data on this virus, analyzing it, and reaching a solution to put a stop to this growing threat. The purpose of such research is to focus on one main issue, which is understanding the coronavirus and the biological outcome that is expected to happen.

More and more organizations are making it their primary focus to gain a deeper understanding of our biology as humans without slowing their path with unnecessarily technical or organizational restrictions. Sharing failed experiments will allow these professionals to learn from others’ mistakes and start working towards a more effective solution. Communities are also focusing on studying the SARS-CoV-2 genome to be able to understand more about this viral outbreak. Scientists, biologists, researchers, and basically anyone who is an expert in running experiments and testing hypotheses are welcome to join these organizations to stand together in the face of this virus.

Political Parties Collaborating

While biologists and scientists have been focusing on breaking the standards by making all necessary data available for everyone, others have been putting all their effort into sharing their valuable insights and experiences to start working together on understanding the virus and finding a cure. On the other hand, political parties across the world are also collaborating to offer something that should have been accessible to the public a long time ago, which is making healthcare available for all. While some independent politicians have started their own movements, right now, everyone has realized the gravity that these movements hold the lives of many. Healthcare coverage shouldn’t only be provided to those who can pay for it. It should be implemented as a right for every child, adult, and senior, regardless of their occupation or financial status. Here are some of the numerous, invaluable advantages that we stand to gain by making healthcare publicly accessible.

  • The government will be responsible for controlling the prices through negotiations, lowering the cost of healthcare.
  • Minimizing the administrative constraints and costs to speed up the process of getting necessary help without wasting any time.
  • Treating everyone equally and providing medical care to everyone without any predetermined, discriminative standards.
  • Reducing the cost of medical care by providing primary and preventive care for everyone. This way, we could possibly reduce the number of patients who use emergency rooms rather than going to their primary care physicians by 46%.

Encouraging Self-quarantine

The coronavirus outbreak has proven that we are all interconnected. The financial resources and medical knowledge are not the only things that are benefiting society today, even regular people have a role. This might seem trivial, however, our personal role in this crisis is one of the greatest tools that can prevent overloading the healthcare system. WHO has enlisted some of the rules that should be applied to slow down the onset of the pandemic, and hopefully bring it to a complete stop. Travel and trading restrictions are crucial, but so is staying in our house and practicing self-distancing to protect ourselves as a community. What many people don’t realize is that some people can still be carriers of the virus without showing any symptoms. This is why it’s essential to follow the preventive measures and hygienic practices recommended by the WHO in order to protect ourselves and others.

Every person in every community right now has their own roles that they should fulfill. While this pandemic has drained our resources in so many ways, there are still sparks of hope that continue to reveal themselves. While scientists are collaborating to find a way out of this situation, different political parties are taking big steps in providing healthcare for all, and people are trying to minimize the dangers by practicing basic preventative practices.
