The Treatments Offered at Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centres

There are many treatments that are offered in rehab centres.  Most of these treatments start with the process of detoxification before proceeding to other forms of treatment such as counseling and behavioral therapies. There are some treatment processes involve the use of medication order to cleanse the body of addiction. The kind of treatment offered at the rehab centre is dependent on the type and level of addiction, the facilities at the centre as well as the training level of the personnel. However, drug addicts can just follow one form of treatment. The treatment method chosen at the centre is based on the needs and the capacity of the patient. In this article, we are going to learn more about their treatment plans. This is to know what to expect from addiction centres.

Detoxification

Detoxification is the first step in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction and involves cleansing the body of the substances that one is addicted to. During the detoxification process, patients suffer from withdrawal effects after stopping to take the drug that they have been using. Unfortunately, withdrawal phase can be very unpleasant and sometimes, the therapists may opt to administer some medications in order to make it bearable.  Depending on the individual, the process of detoxification can take weeks or even months to complete.

Assessment

The next phase of treatment for an addict is the assessment phase where the therapists determine the course of treatment. However, this process is very complex given that the therapists must make the right recommendations for the treatment that patients should take. Substance abuse process should involve psychological and physical treatments. In addition to removing traces of drugs in their systems, addicts can be treated for other psychological disorders that caused them to fall into addiction in the first place. This process is very crucial for it reduces chances for a relapse in the future.

Individual and group counseling

Another form of treatment for addiction is counseling sessions. This is done in order to deal with psychological illnesses that are very rampant during addiction. One of the most popular forms of counseling is behavioral therapy. This therapy is important for it enables the counselors to deal with addicts who are used to taking substances at specific times and places. During counselling sessions, the therapists explain to the addicts that it is possible to break addiction and regain total control of their lives.

Medication

In addition to offering the above types of treatments, rehab centres must have medications for treating withdrawal symptoms. Professional rehab centres also have the capacity to treat other conditions that may develop as the patients are residing in their facilities. That is why they have trained medical personnel stationed at the centres at all times.

Conclusion

As we have seen above, treatment at the rehab centre involves different processes that are aimed at enabling the addict recover completely from their condition. The treatments are also categorized as outpatient treatments, short term treatments that take about six weeks and long term treatments that go beyond one year. You can choose the one that meets your needs and condition.
