Understanding What Is Vertigo

Vertigo is a condition when you suddenly come down with a feeling of dizziness for no explained reason. In fact, you don’t even have to be moving to acquire the feeling of dizziness. This condition occurs because your senses are telling your brain that your body is off balance even when it really isn’t. What that being said, what most individuals don’t understand is that vertigo is actually a symptom and not a diagnosis. This means that there is some other underlying condition that is causing the dizziness.

Some individuals will only experience vertigo once, while others will constantly experience it until the underlying condition is resolved. One of the most common types of known vertigo is called benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV), and this causes deposits to build up in the inner ear. This will eventually affect your senses and knock off your balance. However, not to worry because there are a variety of different ways that you can remedy vertigo, which you will learn about below.

Proper Hydration

You should already know that hydration is an important part of keeping the body healthy. However, what you might not know is that dehydration can cause vertigo in many cases. The best way to ensure that your body is always hydrated is by consuming enough water throughout the day. This is especially true on hot and humid days, if you find yourself out in the sun. Along with this, reducing your sodium intake can also help combat your dehydration issues.

Get You Daily Vitamin D

Vertigo can even show up due to the fact that there is a key component that you are missing in your diet. In fact, recent studies show that individuals that aren’t getting enough vitamin D are more likely to come down with a case of vertigo. Just simply, consume a glass of milk, orange juice, canned tuna, or even egg yolks to get your daily requirements of vitamin D. Of course, there are tons of other foods out there that can provide you with the vitamin D that you need. Learning to remedy my vertigo is fairly easy with different foods.

The Epley Maneuver

Individuals that are suffering from BPPV have found the epley maneuver extremely effective. The best thing about this maneuver is that it just involves repositioning the body and you can simply perform the maneuver right in the comfort of your own home. To perform the maneuver simply start by sitting upright on a flat surface, while keeping you legs stretched out. Also, make sure that you have a pillow placed behind your body. Once you are in the position, turn your head to the right 45 degrees. Keeping your head tilted in this position, you want to lean back on the pillow, and hold this position for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, you can go ahead and slowly turn your head to the left 90 degrees, and you want to try to do this without engaging your neck. Now, shift your whole body to the left side, so that you are completely leaning on the entire left side of your body.

After completing these ranges of motions, you can return back to the starting position. This maneuver can be repeated three to four times in one sitting, and you can even have someone assist you with the movements if you find them too difficult to perform on your own.
