We are campaigning in Wales for a charitable hospital chaplaincy service. Our Proposal envisages the same service as at present, provided by the same staff having the same terms and conditions of employment, employed by the same employer (UHBs) but funded by a charitable trust (like the Air Ambulance Service). This will save £1.3 million each and every year for nursing, midwifery and medicine. Can anyone in the SHA provide a good reason why this is not worth considering?
N.B. Hospital Chaplaincy is NOT a statutory service (Dept. of Health)
After 5 days it looks like no one has a good reason for funding religious care in hospitals from NHS budget when a charitable trust could raise the money. We raised this issue with the Welsh Labour Government of Wales in 2008. Eight years on and £11 million spent, the Welsh Government has not been able to produce an answer either.
