TTIP and the NHS – Threat or Opportunity?
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership TTIP has been a hot issue for green and left campaigners in the recent European Elections across most of the EU and is now topic of intensive civil society campaigning, with trade-unions also becoming more vocal on the issue.
NHS reform, marketization and (part-) privatisation has never been off the news since the 2010 General Election, but developments are coming to a crunch here as well.
This meeting aims to investigate if and how TTIP negotiations and the future of the NHS are connected, if TTIP poses a threat to public health care systems on the European side of the Atlantic, if there are safeguards for the NHS which should be demanded by the European negotiators, etc.
On the other hand, pro-European campaigners have been using TTIP and its expected boost for jobs and growth as a strong counter argument against #BREXIT.
