How to overcome your worries that have been holding you back?

Mental Health

We live stressful lives, with too much time dedicated to work and few moments to personal pleasures. Most of us have the tendency of over-thinking things, spending a lot of time worrying about what lies ahead. A wise man once said that we have to let go of the past and not worry about the future, in order to be happy. If you are interested in overcoming your worries and finally letting go of everything that has been holding you back, do not hesitate to keep on reading this article.

#1 Concentrate on the present

As it was mentioned above, we have the tendency to worry about things that did not happen yet. Or, worse, we think about the things that have happened in the past, replaying them over and over again. If you want to be happy and worry-free, concentrate on the present. Be here, enjoy the moment and let go of everything else. Appreciate every day for the gift that it truly is and do not allow yourself to become sick with worries for things you have no control over.

#2 Perspective

We are given only one life but if we live it well enough, it is sufficient. When you start a new day, the way you are going to look at things will determine whether you will be happy or not. You can choose to let yourself be overcome by worries or, as an alternative, you can choose to view things from another perspective. Remember, you do not have to carry the entire weight of the world on your shoulders.

#3 Response

Every day, we are faced with a number of stressful events and experiences. From time to time, we may also have to deal with highly stressful moments, such as the death of a loved person, divorce or lost friendships. In such situations, it is the way you respond to the stressful situation that can make all the difference. Accept the fact that you are human and that you cannot control everything; once you accept such things, it will be infinitely easier to let go of your worries.

#4 Personal time

Even though you might be passionate about your work and love your job, you have to find some personal time and enjoy your hobbies as well. Too much work can lead to burnout, with symptoms of depression coming to complete the picture. You need to set some time aside just for yourself, spending quality moments with your family, reading a book or listening to music. In this way, you will be able to relax and have more energy for work, without being worried all the time.

#5 No procrastination

Someone once said that procrastination is the disease of the moment, with more and more people delaying the tasks they have at hand. If you delay handling things, they will only accumulate and create more stress. In general, if you have a task that seems too complicated to handle at once, it is recommended that you break it up in smaller assignments. In this way, it will be easier to complete the task, especially if you offer yourself a small reward with each achieved step.

#6 Physical exercise

You might not be aware of it but physical exercise is one of the best things you can do, in order to eliminate stress and let go of your worries. If you were to read the stories of successful people, you would discover that most of them have a morning workout routine that ensures a stress-free existence. Physical exercise, whether in the form of yoga, running or jogging, stimulates the release of endorphins at the level of the brain. These are known as the happiness hormones and they can improve a person’s capacity of handling stress in a more efficient manner.

#7 Communication

One of the main reasons why we end up being so stressed is our lack of courage to communicate what we truly feel. Communication is key to a worry-free life, whether we are talking about the personal or professional existence. You need to tell others how you feel and they make you feel, instead of keeping everything bottled inside and bursting at the wrong moment. When you open up, you will find it easier to let go of things and worry less about similar situations in the future.

These are just a couple of things that you need to change in your life, in order to overcome your worries and let go of what has been holding you back. Always take a positive attitude on life and do not worry as much about what other people may think about you. You might be surprised to find out that most of the people are concerned about their own person, finding very little or no time to judge you per say. Invest time in personal development, finding ways to relax yourself and grow, as this will only deliver benefits on a long-term basis. Do not hesitate to share your newfound advice with friends and colleagues, in order to help other people let go of worries as well.
