When you race from one end of the day to the next, finding time for a serious workout can be difficult. After all, you use up all of your energy at work, so who has any left for a workout?

The problem is that we tend to become less inclined to exercise as we become older, so we become more out of shape as time goes on. This is why working smarter and including a workout into your busy day will help you to not only have more energy now, but also will put you in good stead for the future.

So here are 6 ways you can incorporate a workout into your busy day:

  1. Find a gym near your work: Drop in for a 30 minute session at least three times a week, before or after work or even in your lunch hour. This is a guaranteed way to give you more energy during your week.
  2. Turn your commute into a workout: If you can jog or cycle to work a few times a week, just imagine what that will do to your fitness level! If you live too far away from work, then get off the train or bus a few stops before your destination and walk or jog the rest of the way.
  3. Take the stairs at work: Forgo the elevator and walk up and down the stairs instead. This will make huge difference to your fitness levels and costs absolutely nothing. It also gives time to destress at work, so you have two good outcomes with one workout.
  4. Sign up for a fun class: Instead of spending all of your time at the gym, think about learning to pole dance, learn a martial art or take tennis lessons. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring, the more you enjoy it, the more benefits you will receive.
  5. Wake up an hour early: If you are short on time, then get up an hour early and hit the gym, go for a run or take the dog out for a jog. You might not like this idea, but after a few weeks you will start to look forward to your early morning exercise (so will the dog).
  6. Buy a jogging stroller: If you are a stay at home mum with a young child, then invest in a jogging stroller and take your toddler with you on your daily runs. This way, you will both benefit from the fresh air and exercise.
