Jack had magic beans, yet to many people all over the world, there’s something magical about the tradition of drinking coffee.  So, what is the health benefits of the habit aside from the gratification derived from drinking one, two, or more cups per day?  Below, clear away the confusion related to whether drinking too much is such a bad thing.

Get Smart

Can coffee make you smarter?  Studies show drinking coffee inhibits the chemical Adenosine, which subsequently leads to the production of dopamine and other brain chemicals, which then produces better thought and the firing of neurons. Type II diabetes affects millions of people around the world, elevating blood sugar, which makes it hard to resist or secrete insulin.  Those who drink coffee have a 23-50% lower risk of developing type II diabetes.

In addition to diabetes, coffee may lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.  There is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, yet there are a number of recommended things you can do to help combat its progression or development, such as eating healthy, exercising, and drinking coffee.  Some studies prove coffee drinkers have up to 65% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

Parkinson’s Disease is also a neurodegenerative disease, which causes eradication of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain.  Since there is no cure for Parkinson’s, it’s important to focus on prevention.   Coffee drinkers reduce their risk by up to 60%.  However, caffeine is the necessary ingredient; drinking decaffeinated blends won’t help.

The liver is responsible for hundreds of duties and helps keep the body clean.  Several diseases harm and destroy the liver such as hepatitis and fatty liver disease.  At worst, such can cause cirrhosis of the liver, a condition that involves the liver being replaced by scar tissue.  Coffee can protect against cirrhosis; people who drink more than four cups per day have up to a 80% lower risk of liver problems.
