(to the tune of Greensleeves)

1          Alas ATOS they do me wrong,

To treat me so robotically,

I was down and out, they stopped my dole,

I’m sick and homeless, in poverty.

ATOS said they really care,

When statistics is all they want for their boss,

ATOS said they’re truly fair,

When all that concerns them is profit and loss.

2          They called me in for an interview

Where two flights of stairs blocked my wheelchair

But ATOS said I was fit for work

It was my fault I couldn’t get there

3          My doctors said that grief and abuse

Had caused me to be clinically depressed

But ATOS said I was fit for work

As long as sometimes I could get dressed.

4          I showed them my appointment card

For last-ditch chemotherapy

But ATOS said I was fit for work

If before I died I could bend my knee

5          But my friend witnessed the interview

And there’s a tape which will reveal

That ATOS isn’t fit for work

In evidence ready for my appeal

Can this be recorded and put on Youtube?

  2. Oliver Swingler says:

If you want to – please do! The situation is that Making Waves is a left/green community choir which has a policy of freely sharing our produce. We recently gave a performance which was videod and hopefully will go on YouTube – but didn’t include the ATOS song which had just been written. So if anyone else wants to record it and put it up (it would be nice with acknowledgement of me and the choir), they are most welcome – I’ll even blow them a cyber-kiss!

  3. Joyce Drummond says:

If anyone does record this, please can you post a link to this page- https://www.facebook.com/#!/SupportNurseWhoBlowsWhistleOnAtosAssessments?sk=messages_inbox&action=read&tid=id.318978278234440
    Thank you.

  4. Ivan Riches says:

Well done Oliver and thank you for sending it to me.

  5. Oliver says:

I recently asked DPAC whether besides the name the song was still current – and reply was, unfortunately yes, just change the name to “Maximum or Maximarse (as we call them)”!
Hopefully, we will be recording it – and maybe have it up on YouTube by Christmas – in which case I’ll post a link
