A seminar for councillors, non-executives and other non- specialists who need to understand the workings of health services.

We plan to cover some basic information about health, disease and deprivation, the pattern of NHS services, where the money is spent, a bit of basic health economics, rationing, public involvement, consultation and scrutiny. We will assume no specialist knowledge and attendance will be restricted to 25 to ensure that everyone gets to participate in discussion.

Trainers: Dr Paula Whittaker, Tina Funnell, Julie Reid, Martin Rathfelder.

Cost: Statutory, NHS and commercial organisations £100, Voluntary and charitable organisations £50, SHA members £20 (includes members of affiliated organisations such as Unite and Unison who represent their union or pay their own way). Unfunded organisations and individuals please contact us. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
